Hill-Donnelly CD Instructions
Note: This is not detailed documentation on how to
use the Hill-Donnelly CD, but rather a guide to help you use basic features of
the program to download leads files so that they can be imported into ECHO
using the Auto-Loader. Any specific inquiries about the Hill-Donnelly CD or
program should be directed to http://www.hilldonn.com
or you can call them at (800) 925-4654.
Installation
To install the Hill-Donnelly CD click on the Start
button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, click on Run… and
at the Open: prompt type "D:\Install\Setup.exe" where "D" is your CD
drive letter. (If your CD-ROM drive were "Z" then you would type "Z:\Install\Setup.exe".)
The program will then install and ask you to confirm a few things
(e.g. installation location, license, etc.).
Running a Search
- Double-click on the new icon titled "CrossSearch5" (or something close) on your desktop to
run the program. Again, the program may
ask you to confirm your license. (There
may be several windows that pop up while using the program – just click on OK
or Agree to get past them.)
- Once you are into the program it will probably ask you to select a volume.
Highlight the area you wish to search and click on OK.
- To start a search click on the Search pull-down menu, and click on the criteria
which you want to search. For this example we’re going to do a "Custom" search. The program
will then walk you through a wizard asking you to enter search criteria. At the end of the
wizard you should get the results of your search.
Downloading a Leads File
- After you get the results from your search you will need to tag the listings. You can do this
by right-clicking on any one of the listings in the results list and left-clicking on "Tag All Eligible
listings on this screen". Most people will only be able to 16 at a time. Please call Hill-Donnelly
if you would like to upgrade your capabilities or if you have questions about the program.
- Once the leads are tagged download the leads by again right-clicking on any one of the
listings and left-clicking on "Download all tagged listings".
- On the next screen choose the download order ("Tagged" should be fine.), and click on OK.
- When the "Select Download Format" comes up highlight the "ACT!" format, and click
on Download As.
- Now a "Select Download Data File" window will appear. Choose where you would like to save the file next to "Save in:"
at the top. If this is a non-work computer you may want to save the file to your Auto-Loader diskette in your A:\
drive. If this is the computer on which you will be loading the leads then choose "Desktop" – it’s generally the
easiest place to find it. At the bottom of that window leave "Save as type:" as "Text File (*.TXT)", and change the
file name to any file name beginning with "GEN" (e.g. GEN_OUTPUT).
- Once this file is saved you can click on the "Page Down"
button at the top to get the next set of
listings, and again walk through the process of tagging and downloading the
listings to your desired location.
Loading the Leads with Auto-Loader
Make sure you are on the work computer that you wish to load the leads, and make
sure you are at the main "Table of Contents" screen in ECHO.
- Once you have at least on leads file to import click on the Start button in the
lower left-hand corner of your screen, click on Run… and at the Open:
prompt type the following:
- If the leads file is located on your Auto-Loader diskette type: "A:import" and hit the
<ENTER> key.
- If the leads file is located on your Desktop type: "A:import locate" (Make sure there
is a space between "A:import" and "locate".), and hit the <ENTER> key. When
the "Browse for Folder" window comes up scroll to the top,
highlight "Desktop", and click on OK.
- If you would like to see further options type: "A:import ?"
(Make sure there is a space between "A:import" and "?".)
- At the Auto-Loader main screen of Auto-Loader click on "Import Generic Leads", and follow
the instructions. For further instructions on using the Auto-Loader please view the
other documentation.
